The Albright College women's basketball team cut a 14-point second half deficit down to a single possession but couldn't come all the back in a 67-65 loss to Elizabethtown on Saturday.
Sophomore
Tara Sabotchick made 8-of-11 shots, and 4-of-6 behind the arc, to finish with a game-high 22 points. She also had five rebounds and three assists.
Junior
Meghan Boyle turned in a double-double, with 10 points and 16 rebounds. Freshman
Kelecia Harris added 16 points (7-of-10 shooting) and seven rebounds.
Albright trailed 49-35 with 13 minutes remaining, but got things going in the right direction with a
Jessica Venturelli basket. Two free throws by the sophomore guard cut the deficit to single-digits, at 52-44 with 10 minutes to play.
Boyle's put-back, followed by a
Kristi McFadden free throw, cut the Blue Jays' lead to five, 54-49. Another Boyle put-back with 2:30 remaining cut the deficit to one possession at 58-53.
Albright got to within three points again on a Harris lay-up and then played great defense to run down the shot clock.
Katy Fogel then banked in a desperation three-pointer however to make it 63-59.
The Lions would get to within three points one more time, as Sabotchick hit in a late three-pointer.
Nadine Yunginger made both of her freebies with six seconds left however to ice the victory, despite Sabotchick's buzzer-beater triple.
Taylor Alwine's three-point play put the Blue Jays up 16-12 in the first half. Fogel followed with a three-pointer, before Albright's
Amanda Tiritilli broke the run with a long-range three.
Kendra Beittel swished a long triple and
Taylor Kreider had a steal and lay-in as the Blue Jays added a 10-0 run later in the first half.
Albright falls to 6-6, 2-3, and will travel to Stevenson on Monday before hosting Hood College on Wednesday; both opponents are new members of the Commonwealth Conference.
