Box Score
In a game where every goal was scored on a corner, the Albright College field hockey team beat Widener University 3-1 on the road Saturday.
Each squad also tallied with time expired at the end of a half. Sophomores
Mackenzie Faight and
Amanda Smith each had a goal and an assist for the Red and White.
Smith gave Albright the lead in the ninth minute off a penalty corner. Her initial shot was saved, but she followed up her own rebound and slotted into the cage from the right side.
The Pride had a penalty corner with time expired in the first half. Rules allow the corner to be played out, and
Devon Biglin fed
Ashley Aires for a deflected goal.
Albright struck on another corner early in the second half. Faight played into Smith, and then ran in to finish off the chance after Smith's shot was knocked down.
Alyssa Tourdot and
Jessie Leonardis both had shots midway through the second half, but put them wide of the cage.
Senior goalie
Marguerite DeLucas stopped Widener's
Mackenzie Lindquist with 69 seconds left, on the Pride's final shot of the game.
Albright then returned the favor with a corner goal with time expired in the game. Faight picked up an assist, with senior
Chelsea Klein finishing into the right corner.
The Lions improve to 6-7, 2-2 and will host nationally-ranked Messiah on Tuesday.
