Box Score
11th-ranked Messiah College scored three times in the final 21 minutes as the Albright College field hockey team's upset bid ran out of steam in a 3-0 loss, Tuesday at Shirk Stadium.
Albright had a golden chance to take the lead less than three minutes after halftime.
Samantha Martin's shot slipped under Messiah goalie
Molly Gebrosky and
Sam Chichearo was pushed off the goalline. A penalty stroke was whistled, but Gebrosky made a fantastic diving save on
Amanda Smith.
Marguerite DeLucas (13 saves) responded with a great stop to smother
Celina Nissley, but
Emily Bower scored on the ensuing corner with 20:36 remaining.
Rachel Cox and
Moriah Pfautz added late goals for Messiah, who was just six days removed from thumping the nation's top-ranked team, Franklin & Marshall, by a 5-1 scoreline.
DeLucas made nine first half saves as the Lions kept the Falcons at bay in the opening 35 minute period.
She made a sprawling low stop on
Gina Kellett in the 10th minute, and then a kick stop off a corner to deny Pfautz.
Late in the first half, Pfautz (13 shots, team-leading 11th goal) hit the post. Minutes later DeLucas came sliding out to stop a Pfautz breakway, and then kicked away another shot from the freshman just before the break.
Albright is 6-8, 2-3 on the season, and will host TCNJ on Thursday night in a non-conference matchup.
