Box Score
In a battle of Lions, the Albright College field hockey team lost 6-0 to ninth-ranked and 2011 national champion TCNJ on Thursday in Shirk Stadium.
TCNJ scored just 42 seconds in, on the first penalty corner of the contest.
Lindsey Hatch played the ball into
Erin Waller and then ran in to tip the shot past
Marguerite DeLucas (13 saves).
Hatch nearly repeated the play three minutes later, but slid her shot wide. Off a DeLucas save,
Erin Healy put a rebound from the goalmouth wide right.
Hatch made it 2-0 in the ninth minute of action, tipping in
Jaclyn Douglas' cross from the right side. Healy then slotted a shot into the low corner for the third TCNJ goal, and Waller's slapper pushed the gap to 4-0 just before halftime.
DeLucas made a blocker save on Hatch midway through the half, then came up with a nice split save on
Victoria Martin.
The visitors would tack on two more goals in the second half. Late in the game, Albright had its best chance as freshman
Morgan Raneiri forced a good save off a penalty corner.
It was the Red and White's second home game against a nationally-ranked team over a three-day stretch, following a 3-0 loss to #11 Messiah on Tuesday.
Albright is 6-9 overall and travels to face local rival Alvernia on Wednesday. At 2-3 in the Commonwealth Conference and with three games remaining against other middle-of-the-pack teams, the matchup will be crucial for the Red and White's chances at a playoff spot.
