Box Score
A goal with 35 seconds left eliminated the Albright College field hockey team from playoff contention, as the Lions lost 2-1 to Stevenson in Shirk Stadium.
Alison Kagel opened the scoring in the 17th minute, tipping in a pass from
Rebecca Moreland in front of goal.
Kagel had a penalty stroke with 19 seconds left before halftime and a chance to extend the lead, but senior
Marguerite DeLucas made an outstanding diving save to the right side.
The Lions tied it with less than 12 minutes remaining, as
Chelsea Klein's shot from outside was blocked and
Amanda Smith followed up the rebound.
Stevenson's
Caitlin Dempsey took it in alone in the final minute, cut past a defender to get the ball on her forehand, and slipped a shot into the back post for the winner.
Albright had two penalty corners with time expired and brought the entire team up, but couldn't get off a good shot.
The first shot of the game had come nine minutes in, with DeLucas blocking
Allyson Moody at the near post. She then stopped
Allie Goodwill at the same post, midway through the period.
Dempsey later took a pass, spun her defender, and rolled a shot off the right post. The ensuing corner was broken up well by
Rachael Jones. Jones did the same on a second half corner, charging out to block the shot.
It was Senior Day, and Albright recognized DeLucas, Klein and
Alyssa Tourdot- a group that has combined for four All-Conference selections heading into this season.
The Lions also hosted their "Play4theCure" game, with donations collected to support breast cancer research. Both teams wore pink headbands, and the squads played with pink balls.
