Box Score
Following a 2-0 start to the season, the Albright College women's basketball team suffered a 72-62 loss to Moravian College today.
Moravian drew first blood in the game as
Laura Jordan hit a jumper to cash in two of her thirteen total points. The Lions bounced back immediately with a 14-0 run in a span of six minutes, propelled by seven points from freshman center
Kelecia Harris and a key three point shot by
Shannon Thomas.
Albright saw productive bench play out of sophomore
Emily O'Donnell in the first half, as the center made three consecutive layups to give the Lions a 20-10 lead with 8:30 remaining in the half. O'Donnell made the most of her eleven minutes of play, totaling nine points and five rebounds.
Despite their impressive run and solid lead, the Lions hurt themselves with seven turnovers in the final seven minutes of the half. The costly turnovers led to a 19-7 Moravian run to give the Greyhounds a 29-27 lead to end the half.
Moravian's momentum carried into the second half as the Greyhounds started a 6-0 run, with
Danielle Brogan capitalizing on two Albright fouls to bury four free throws and give her team a 35-27 lead.
Trailing 52-48 with 7:28 remaining in the game, Albright's Harris collected her fourth personal foul and was forced to sit out nearly five minutes. Harris had 11 points, 6 rebounds, and two blocks in just twenty three minutes of play due to foul trouble.
The Lions were unable to regain the lead at any point during the second half, despite bringing the game within two points on several occasions throughout the half.Â
Freshman
Shannon Thomas put forth a strong second half, collecting eight of her total thirteen points.
The Greyhounds offense, led by
Alexis Wright (a WBCA Honorable Mention All-American in 2012-13), and a stout defense that caused twenty three turnovers proved to be too much for the Lions. Wright recorded team highs in points (16), rebounds (14), and minutes (33).
Twenty three Albright turnovers gave way to 25 points for the Greyhounds, who took full advantage of the Lions' miscues throughout the game.
With today's loss, the Lions fall to 2-1 on the season, while Moravian improves to 3-1. Albright will host Widener University this upcoming Tuesday, November 26th, in their first conference matchup of the season.
