The Albright College men's basketball team travels across town to Alvernia for a big rivalry matchup.

Previous Meeting

The Lions held off Alvernia and moved into a tie for first place with a thrilling 57-54 road victory last January 30.

Dave Singleton tacked on one free throw to make it 56-51 with 38 seconds left, but Khalil Bennett drained a quick three-pointer at the other end. Reuel Moore made one-of-two, and Lamont Clark's three-point buzzer beater attempt hit the front rim with a chance to force overtime.

A packed and boisterous crowd of 1,712 fans watched the tense contest that ended with five of 10 athletes on the floor playing with four fouls. Singleton finished with a double-double, totaling 12 points and 11 rebounds. Alvernia was led by Clark and Brian Parker, with a game-high 17 points each. Parker had a double-double with 12 rebounds.

Series

Alvernia holds a 13-12 advantage in an evenly-matched series that dates back to the 1988-89 season.

Albright College Lions (2-3, 1-1)

Freshman Sameen Swint pulled the Albright College men's basketball team back into the game midway through the second half and then hit the game-winner with seven seconds remaining, as the Lions defeated Arcadia 85-84 on Wednesday. The victory helped the Red and White improve to 1-1 in league play heading into today's important contest.

Swint finished with a game-high 19 points on 7-of-14 shooting. He drove from the right corner and finished on Albright's final possession to give the Lions the victory. The entire Albright starting lineup was in double-figures, with seniors Kyle Jordan (16 points), Pedro Perez (12 points) and Sam Marrella (11 points) all contributing. Sophomore center Calvert Gantz had 10 points, eight rebounds and six blocked shots.

Alvernia University Crusaders (4-2, 1-1)

Alvernia was nationally-ranked in numerous preseason polls, including at high as #9 by the Sporting News. Rising junior Terrance Bridgers was a DIII News Preseason All-American selection, but is no longer with the team.

The Crusaders opened the season with an 81-71 loss to #18 Middlebury before beating a good Franklin & Marshall team 70-69 in overtime. Alvernia lost its Commonwealth Conference opener to Stevenson before rallying from a 15-point deficit on Wednesday to defeat Lycoming by one point, 67-66.

Despite losing Bridgers, Alvernia still returns four All-Commonwealth selections from last season- seniors Bennett, Parker and Chris Davis, and junior Clark. Head coach Mike Miller now has his son on the roster as a freshman.
