Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Men's Lax Completes Win, Clinches Home Playoff

Box Score

The Albright College men's lacrosse team clinched a home playoff game on Monday, defeating Lebanon Valley 10-7 in a previously suspended contest.

For their second varsity season, the Lions will open the Commonwealth playoffs at home in a semifinal next Wednesday. Widener will be the likely opponent if the Pride win their conference finale vs. Hood.

Tonight's game was originally postponed from April 10, with Albright leading 5-3 at halftime. Once it was resumed, the Dutchmen managed to overturn that deficit before the Lions finished strong.

Freshman Matthew Lomady and sophomore Ryan Turner each had hat tricks to lead Albright, with Kyle McCabe scoring twice.

Defensively, junior Sean Cunningham caused four turnovers while classmate Mike Donohoe forced two. Sophomore Darian Meador totaled 10 ground balls.

Trailing 7-6 with under 11 minutes to play, Albright struck three times in 66 seconds.

Philip Potter fed Turner to tie the contest, and then scored less than a minute later to push the Red and White in front. Off the ensuing draw, McCabe won the ground ball and fired home to double the advantage.

Lomady had made it 6-3 off an assist from fellow rookie Johnny Moore, at 9:33 of the third quarter. LVC got back into the game with some big turnovers however.

With 6:23 left in the third, the Dutchmen scored. Albright won the faceoff but Ryan Lanigan caused a turnover and Steve Wildeberger picked up the loose ball, soon leading to another LVC strike. In the final minutes of the quarter, Lanigan forced a failed Lion clear and the Dutchmen tallied to tie things up at 6-6.

The Lions led 5-3 at halftime back on April 10, with those stats counting towards today's final. Turner had two goals at the time of suspension that finally go on the board now, while McCabe, Andrew Poitras and Lomady had one goal each.

Senior goalie Jordan DiZenzo had six saves in the suspended first half; he finished with 12.

Albright improves to 12-2, 6-1 and will travel to Messiah on Wednesday.
