Box Score
Sophomore
Amanda Smith scored the winning goal in a crazy overtime period, as the Albright College field hockey team defeated DeSales University 1-0 in Shirk Stadium.
Smith controlled a deflection at the right post and slipped it the other way past the goalie for the sudden-victory tally.
After a slow first half, the chances kept coming in the second period and into overtime.
Sophomore
Jessie Leonardis shot wide early in the overtime, and classmate
Mackenzie Faight redirected a good chance wide of the cage. With 9:30 left in the first extra period,
Chelsea Klein's drive forced a tough save and the senior slipped the rebound past the right post.
Early in the second half, Klein skidded a shot wide from the middle of the area, and Smith's redirect also just missed.
DeSales'
Jesse Marshall had chances of her own, touching a shot wide and then forcing a kick save from Albright goalie
Marguerite DeLucas.
The best chance of the game came with over 13 minutes remaining, as Faight went in alone on a breakaway and hit the post. DeSales goalie
Becky Rasmuson slid back to save the dangerous rebound chance.
A scoreless first half had featured just five total shots, and only two on goal. Albright had the first penalty corner of the game, with
Sara Barr's slap shot blocked by a defender.
Albright was a player down midway through the half after a Faight card, but the Lions did not allow a shot during that time. Off a penalty corner 10 minutes before halftime, DeLucas made a good kick save on
Meryah Harding.
The Lions improve to 1-2 and will host Richard Stockton on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
