The Albright College women's and men's teams face similar situations this Wednesday, as they conclude the first half of league play with a crucial mid-table battle against the team that ended their Commonwealth championship hopes a year ago.
Commonwealth Conference Standings
Sitting at 3-5 with one game left in the opening half of the conference schedule, the Albright women need a win against Lycoming to keep pace. A victory would tie the Lions for sixth place with the Warriors, with the top five teams making the playoffs.
Albright's five losses have come to the top five teams in the standings- Lebanon Valley, Elizabethtown, Stevenson, Widener and Messiah, so the Lions will likely also need to overturn some results in the second half of the season to make a playoff run. However, Albright would be well within striking distance with a victory tonight.
Previous Meeting
Albright traveled to Lycoming on the penultimate day of the 2012-13 regular season with the fifth and final playoff spot on the line. The Lions held Lycoming to just 19.2% shooting and just 13 first half points en route to a 23-13 lead at the break.
Everything turned in the second half however, as Albright went 11:19 without a field goal and turned the ball over on nine of their first 10 possessions of the period. Lycoming would outscore Albright 36-16 in the second half to earn a trip to Elizabethtown in the Commonwealth play-in game.
Albright College Lions (9-6, 3-5)
Albright was within five points in the second half against #22 Lebanon Valley on Saturday, before ultimately falling to their nationally-ranked opponents 74-64.
Sophomore
Kadijah Bishop had a double-double for Albright, leading the team in points (13) and rebounds (10).
Emily O'Donnell had another good game for the Lions, contributing with 13 points and seven rebounds. Junior
Amanda Tiritilli was 3-for-4 from beyond the arc.
Lycoming College Warriors (7-7, 4-4)
The Warriors defeated Stevenson University 66-61 on Sunday, handing the Mustangs just their second league defeat of the season.
Senior
Julia Antonelli had her second consecutive double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds, while also adding five assists and four blocks for Lycoming.
Oliva Manges (13 points),
Ali Derr (10 points) and
Nicole Calella (10 points) were all in double-figures as well.
Antonelli is turning in team-bests in scoring (15.8 ppg), rebounds (8.9 rpg), blocked shots (seven) and steals (24).
