Albright Win Streak Snapped in Loss to Messiah

Box Score

The Albright College women's basketball team saw its five-game win streak end in a tight 65-59 loss to Messiah, Monday in the Bollman Center.

After Shannon Thomas was fouled on the fast break and made one free throw to give Albright a 56-55 lead with 3:42 left, Messiah answered with a 6-0 run on six free throws. Albright leading scorer and rebounder Kelecia Harris also fouled out during that stretch.

Sophomore Emily O'Donnell had another good shooting night, totaling a game-high 18 points on 8-of-12 shooting. Senior Meghan Boyle had 13 points, and Thomas totaled six assists.

In the first half, the Lions had erased a seven-point deficit to tie at 25-25, and then scored the final six points to enter halftime tied at 31-all after a 6-0 Messiah run.

Harris won the opening tip and then broke right to the basket for a basket off Jessica Venturelli's pass. Boyle's three-point play gave the Lions an early 7-6 lead.

After a Chelsea Danel three-point play helped the Falcons go ahead, O'Donnell responded with an and-one opportunity to keep Albright close at 25-24 down. Harris later added a three-point play on an over-the-top pass from Amanda Tiritilli, and tied it at 25-25 with a free throw the next time down the floor.

With Albright trailing 31-25 late in the first half, sophomore Kadijah Bishop scored and then stole a pass, leading to O'Donnell's putback. Two Thomas free throws in the final minute evened things up going into the locker rooms.

Danel opened the second half with a three-pointer, and Thomas soon sank one from behind the arc to make it 37-36 Messiah.

Hannah Nichols' basket gave Messiah a 46-38 lead and forced Albright to take a timeout. The Lions battled back quickly, cutting the deficit to 48-46 on O'Donnell's three-point play.

Albright falls to 7-3, 2-2 and will conclude a four-game homestand on Wednesday when the Lions face Stevenson in the Bollman Center.
