DeSales Uses Second-Half Rally to Defeat Albright Men's Soccer

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. -- For 45 minutes on Wednesday the Albright men's soccer team appeared on its way to a victory over DeSales University, but the Bulldogs used a big second-half rally to defeat the Lions 6-2 at DUC Soccer Field.

Albright got first-half goals from Josh Linsmeier and Vitali Zaluha to take a 2-0 lead into the intermission only to see DeSales respond with six markers in the second half to claim the non-conference victory.

Linsmeier put the Lions ahead 1-0 at the 2:12 mark of the first half when he scored on a header off of a corner kick from Austin Phillips.

Albright, which dropped to 5-5-1 with the loss, extended the lead to 2-0 when Zaluha scored on a free kick at the 25:33 mark of the match.

The Lions dominated the play in the opening half as they outshot DeSales 12-6 and held a seemingly comfortable lead at the break, but the Bulldogs would rally in the second stanza.

Wes Frebel got DeSales on the board at the 45:45 mark when he scored off of a cross to trim the Albright lead to 2-1. Phil Bortz tied the match at 2-2 when he scored off of a corner kick at the 65:38 mark.

The Bulldogs took the lead when Patrick Roche headed in a ball at the 75:18 mark of the match giving DSU a 3-2 advantage.

DeSales, which improved to 5-5-1, added three more goals before the end of the evening to claim the 6-2 victory.

Zaluha had six shots to lead the Lions, while Andrew Sussingham and Phillips had three each.

Albright opens Commonwealth Conference play on Saturday (Oct. 4) when it visits Hood for a 3 p.m. match.
