READING, Pa. – Sophomores
Emily Sousa and
Natalie Wilson each scored a pair of goals as the Albright College women's soccer squad shutout visiting Lycoming College 4-0 in Commonwealth Conference action Saturday evening at Shirk Stadium.
Sousa opened the scoring, with her seventh of the season, in the fifth minute after
Emily Diaz sent a through ball in and the sophomore broke in on the keeper and scored low into the left hand side of the goal. The Warriors (3-11, 0-3) were able to keep the score at 1-0 after the first 45 despite being outshot 10-0.
The Lions (6-6-1, 2-1 CC) doubled their lead just 1:14 into the second half as Diaz once again sent Sousa in on the left side and she deposited the ball in the back of the net going far side for her eighth of year to make it 2-0.
Wilson made it a 3-0 contest when she picked up a loose ball in the box and chipped it over the Lycoming keeper midway through the second half for her second of the year.
Wilson then ended the scoring after gathering another loose ball in the box with less than 10 minutes remaining and sending it past the keeper for her career high second of the game.
Jaymee Stepp picked up the victory recording two saves in just under 80 minutes of action for Albright. Freshman
Emily Sears finished the final 10 minutes in the goal without facing a shot. Joelle Winey made two saves in net for Lycoming.
Sousa tied a season high with two tallies matching an earlier output in a 4-1 win over Immaculata in early September and Diaz registered her first two points on the season.
Albright hosts Alvernia in a Commonwealth Conference match on Wednesday (Oct. 15) at 7 p.m. at Shirk Stadium.
