EWING, N.J. -- There are times when a final score does not reflect the bigger picture of building a program and the experience of playing against a top-flight team. Such was the case with the Albright College field hockey team as it lost to third-ranked College of New Jersey 7-0 on Thursday at Lions Stadium.
While the Lions came away with a loss the true value comes in the lessons learned of simply competing against a national championship caliber team on the road. With 10 freshmen and sophomores on the roster, head coach Sarah Brant used the game as motivation for her team to strive to compete at that same championship level.
Senior goalie
Gabby Frake was outstanding in net for the Lions as she recorded a season-high 16 saves. The College of New Jersey kept constant pressure on the Lions throughout the game and fired 40 shots at Franke.
Lindsey Hatch led The College of New Jersey with three goals and an assist and recorded 15 shots on the evening, while Jaclyn Douglas recorded two goals. Danielle Andreula and Erin Healy also scored for TCNJ.
Albright, which dropped to 1-10 overall, managed three shots led by
Jessie Leonardis who had two.
Tracy Snyder had the other shot for the Lions.
TCNJ, which raised its record to 10-1 on the season, outshot Albright 23-1 in the first half and took a 5-0 lead into the intermission.
Albright returns to action on Saturday (Oct. 4) when it visits Lebanon Valley for a Commonwealth Conference game at 1 p.m.
