READING, Pa. -- The Albright College women's soccer team saw its five-match home winning streak come to an end on Tuesday as Stevenson defeated the Lions 3-0 in a Commonwealth Conference match at Shirk Stadium.
The Lions entered the match not having lost at Shirk Stadium since August and were a perfect 2-0 at home in Commonwealth Conference play, but Stevenson used a strong first half to put an end to the Albright streak.
Stevenson, which was coming off of a 1-1 tie with top-ranked Messiah, scored three first-half goals on Tuesday led by Meaghan Williams.
Williams got the Mustangs on the board early in the match as she scored unassisted at the 1:54 mark of the first half on a sharp strike from 20 yards out.
The Mustangs increased the lead to 2-0 on a goal from Jamie Matlock off an assist from Kailee Ziegler at the 13:20 mark.
Stevenson added its third goal when Williams scored her fifth of the season at 21:09 on a penalty kick.
Albright dropped to 7-8-1 overall and 3-3 in conference play, while Stevenson improved to 6-5-4 overall and 4-0-1 in the Commonwealth.
The Lions had six shots on the evening led by sophomore
Emily Sousa who had three shots.
Crissy Terraces and
Rachel Snyder each had one shot for the Lions.
Jaymee Stepp started in goal for the Lions and was relieved by
Emily Sears who produced a clean slate in the second half.
The Lions remain firmly in control of their Commonwealth Conference Tournament aspirations with two matches to play. Albright will face Widener on Saturday (Oct. 25) in Chester, Pa., before closing out the regular season against Arcadia on Oct. 29 at Shirk Stadium. An Albright win or tie in either of the remaining matches will secure a berth in the Commonwealth Tournament.
