Men's Soccer Falls 2-1 on a Late Goal by Stevenson

READING, Pa. – Junior Dan Scofield scored his first career goal, but visiting Stevenson University scored late to capture a 2-1 men's Commonwealth Conference soccer victory over Albright College on a cold and blustery Wednesday night at Shirk Stadium.

The Lions (6-10-1, 1-5 CC) saw their hopes for post season play diminished greatly with the loss. The Mustangs (10-5-2, 1-2-2 CC) moved with two points of third place, and currently sit in eighth.

Sophomore Steve Bien-Aime created the opportunity that led to the Scofield goal when took the ball down the left wing and cut into the box, his shot was stopped by Stevenson keeper Ryan Callinan, who could not control the rebound allowing Scofield to pounce on the loose ball and toe poke it into the back of the net at 18:12 of the first half to give Albright a 1-0 lead.

Scofield had an opportunity to widen the lead, but was not able to chest the ball past the keeper in the 34th minute on a service to the far post.

Stevenson took advantage of a ball that ricocheted to Reid Hawkins who scored off a scramble in front of the net to tie the contest 1-1 in the 37th minute.
Andrew Sussingham had a chance to give the lead back to Albright just 30 seconds into the second half, but Callinan was up to the task.

Bien-Aime fired a shot in the 57th minute that was also stopped by the Stevenson keeper.

Stevenson's Zachary Martin found some space down the left wing and fired a shot that eluded Albright keeper Austin Aldinger and found the corner of the net for the winning tally in the 81st minute of play.

The Lions finished with an 8-6 edge in shots, and both teams earned fiver corner kicks. Callinan made four saves in goal for Stevenson, while Aldinger stopped one shot for Albright.

The Lions are next in action on Saturday at 4 p.m. on the road at Widener.
