GRANTHAM, Pa. – Senior
Gabby Frake made 19 saves in goal for Albright College on Tuesday night at Messiah College, but it wasn't enough as the Falcons defeated the Lions 3-0 in Commonwealth Conference field hockey action at Anderson Field.
Albright (2-17, 2-4 CC) managed only two shots at goal in the first 35 minutes, but trailed only 1-0 thanks to 11 saves by Frake. Messiah (11-6, 5-2 CC) took the lead in the 12
th minute on a goal from Kristin Donahue. The Falcons secured a spot in the conference tournament with the victory.
Tracy Snyder paced the Lions with two shots at goal, the first coming with the game scoreless in the 10
th minute on a shot that was blocked and led to the only penalty corner of the game for the Lions.
Messiah opened the scoring when Emily Rudbright gathered her own rebound and slid the ball across to Donahue who broke the scoreless tie.
Amanda Smith had a shot blocked in the 33
rd minute for Albright's second attempt at goal in the half.
Moriah Pfautz made it 2-0 contest when she deflected in a shot just three minutes into the second half.
Albright responded with a shot by
Zoe Jacobs that went wide less than a minute later, and Snyder missed the net just 15 seconds later for Albrights' final attempt on the Messiah goal.
The Falcons tacked on a third goal from Carissa Gehman in 59
th minute. Messiah finished with a 23-0 advantage in shots on goal and a 13-1 edge in corners.
The Lions host Misericordia on Thursday evening at 5 p.m. at Shirk Stadium to close out the 2014 season on Senior Night when Albright will recognize the careers of Frake and
Samantha Martin.
