The Albright College women's lacrosse team dropped a 13-8 decision at Ursinus on Friday, despite a second four-goal performance in as many games by freshman
Giuliana Rizzotti.
Rizzotti put six of her seven shots on goal and added three ground balls. Sophomore
Amanda Smith had a well-rounded performance with three goals, an assist, four ground balls, five draw controls and four caused turnovers. The four CTs equals Albright's school record.
Freshman
Hayley Joyce made her collegiate debut in goal, playing the second half and allowing three goals in 30 minutes. Starter
Emily Hutson totaled three ground balls but the Lions trailed 10-3 at halftime.
Junior
Meghan Wilson scored the opening goal for the Lions in the third minute of action, after Ursinus had opened with two quick strikes.
Twice Rizzotti pulled the Lions back to within a point, scoring to make it 3-2 and then 4-3. The latter goal came with 20:25 left in the first half.
Albright was shut out the rest of the period however, as the Bears closed the first half with six straight goals.
Mary Deliberti scored with 13 seconds remaining to push the gap to 10-3.
The Red and White's attack got back into the game immediately after halftime, tallying three times in a stretch of under three minutes.
Smith opened with a free position shot 27 seconds into the half, and then added two more unassisted goals to cut the deficit to 10-6 wiith 26:37 still remaining.
Ursinus'
Kitty Dawson came up with a crucial goal for the hosts however, and
Amber Moyer answered after Rizzotti had cut the gap back to four with 19:56 remaining.
The teams were even in shots 19-19, but an efficient Bears squad put 17 of those attempts on frame and scored on 13 of them. Ursinus also held a 15-7 advantage in draw controls and recorded just one failed clear.
Albright is 1-1 on the season and travels to Arcadia next Thursday, March 6, before the Lions' home opener on March 8 vs. Richard Stockton.
