The Albright College men's basketball team faces rival Alvernia, looking to break a two-game Commonwealth skid in one of the biggest games of the season.

Wednesday's Games Still On

Inclement weather has caused delays or cancellations at Albright for three straight days. With snow expected to stop this morning and a short travel for the visitors however, tonight's games are still planned for their regularly scheduled times.

"Black Out" Sponsored by Schuylkill Valley Sports

Come support the Lions' men's and women's basketball teams as the Albright community "blacks out" the Bollman Center for these hometown rivalry games. Free black t-shirts will be given to all students, faculty and staff with Albright ID, while supplies last.

This event is sponsored by Schuylkill Valley Sports, offering the highest quality merchandise from the top names in sports apparel. Visit SVSports.com for more information.

SAAC Fundraiser

The Albright College Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) will hold a fundraiser at halftime of tonight's men's game.

Fans can attempt a three-point shot for $3, to win a t-shirt (limit 10 winners). All proceeds will go towards the family of King's College women's basketball coach Brian Donoghue, who was diagnosed with brain cancer this summer. Donoghue is in his ninth season with the Monarchs, and has three children.

Albright College Lions (10-9, 6-6)

The Lions didn't trail in regulation, but ultimately lost a 90-87 heartbreaker in double-overtime at #22 Messiah on Saturday.

Freshman Sameen Swint had 25 points on 9-of-17 shooting. Senior Pedro Perez added 22 points (9-of-15), eight rebounds, four assists and four steals. Classmate Kyle Jordan had a double-double (17 points, 12 rebounds) and Calvert Gantz totaled 14 points and seven boards.

The Lions held a 64-60 lead in the final two minutes. Albright turned it over on consecutive possessions however, and David Fernandez drove to beat the buzzer and send the game to overtime. Swint forced a second extra period by drawing a foul behind the arc and making all three free throws, but the Lions committed a five-second violation while attempting a game-winning play with three seconds left in 2OT.

Alvernia University Crusaders (14-5, 9-3)

The defending Commonwealth Conference champion Crusaders are one game behind Messiah in the race for first place, after the Falcons narrowly held off Albright.

Senior Brian Parker has been named the league Player of the Week two times in a row, picking up an ECAC weekly honor as well. He is averaging 25.5 ppg over his last four contests.

Previous Meeting

A huge Alvernia first half carried the host Crusaders past Albright, 88-66 on December 7.

Alvernia shot 50% from the floor and made 7-of-11 (63.6%) from behind the arc in the first half. Khalil Bennett had 23 points in a first period in which he shot 6-of-7 from the floor, 4-for-5 from downtown and 7-for-7 from the free throw line. He finished with 27 to lead all scorers.

The Lions debuted their new all-black uniforms in front a large visiting student contingent. Alvernia was also well-represented in an enthusiastic crowd of 1722.
