Women's Lacrosse Loses Offensive Battle in Colorado

Box Score

The Albright College women's lacrosse team opened its spring break trip at Colorado College, losing a shootout 22-16 on Monday afternoon.

Sophomore Amanda Smith led the way with seven goals and nine draw controls. Junior Meghan Wilson won eight draws and added a hat trick with one assist. Freshman Giuliana Rizzotti totaled four assists.

Rizzotti and defender Sarah Nale caused two turnovers each. Freshman Lexi Garapola had a hat trick as well.

Albright trailed 4-0 and was held scoreless for the opening 12+ minutes, but rallied later in the first half.

Smith scored three times, two on free position shots, to cut the deficit to 5-3. Nicole Rohrbach made it a one-goal game, and Garapola later kept the Lions down just 7-6.

Colorado led 9-7 after a Madeline Scherer goal with 31 seconds left in the half, but Smith struck again with 0:03 remaining to make it a one-goal game at the break.

Ultimately Albright would score five straight, two from Wilson to open the second half, and goals from Erin Farrell and Garapola to put the Lions ahead 12-9 with 23:25 to play.

Unfortunately Colorado College answered with eight straight to retake a 17-12 advantage.

The Red and White made one more push. Mariah Cullen and Garapola struck in a stretch of just 16 seconds. Colorado's Mary Taussig answered, but two more Lion goals in a 15 second span (from Wilson and Smith) made it 18-16 with 6:21 remaining.

Taussig scored a big free position goal for the hosts, as Colorado College closed with four straight.

Albright held a 25-15 advantage in draw controls, but the Lions were successful on just 11-of-21 clears. Albright also lost the turnover battle 30-23.

The Lions are 3-3 on the season, and continue their trip at Colorado Mesa on Wednesday (7 PM/9 PM Eastern). Colorado College is 6-2 on the year.
