Muhlenberg jumped out to a big first half lead, as the visitors defeated the Albright College women's lacrosse team 17-5 on Wednesday afternoon.
Sophomore
Erin Farrell had a hat trick for the Lions.
Rebecca Sartorio and
Amanda Smith scored once each, with
Meghan Wilson picking up a game-high five ground balls.
The Mules got big scoring performances from several players- including
Michelle Certosimo, who totaled a hat trick with six assists and passed the career 100-assist mark.
Casey Armstrong added seven points (three goals, four assists) and
Stephanie Umbach scored four times.
Early on Albright finally got possession down 3-0, but Wilson's free position shot was saved and Armstrong went all the way for another goal and a 4-0 scoreline.
After Armstrong hit the crossbar with Muhlenberg leading 8-0, Farrell rattled a free position shot off the post and in to get Albright on the board.
With 5:30 remaining before halftime, Albright's
Tori Meyer hit the post. Fellow sophomore
Katie Johnson scored in the final two minutes but the play was waived off for a foot in the crease.
Sartorio scored on a free position early in the second half to make it 12-2. Smith later picked up a loose ball and raced through the defense for a goal, making the score 15-3.
Albright is 5-5 on the season and will finally have its Commonwealth Conference opener on Saturday, at Stevenson.
