The Crusaders drew first blood on a
Ben Sawyer sacrifice fly off of pitcher
Jared Neiheiser, giving Alvernia the 1-0 lead.
In the fourth inning, Alvernia was able to add to their one run lead when Sawyer blasted a three-run home run, accounting for his fourth RBI of the day, making the score 4-0.
The Lions put themselves on the board in the sixth inning when
Gabe Santone singled to center, scoring
Nate Peiffer who reached on a fielders choice earlier in the inning.
Jason Clapper's triple in the bottom of the sixth extended the Crusader lead to 5-1. The four-run deficit proved to be insurmountable for the Lions, despite scoring two runs in the seventh off of a
John Medvecky walk and a
Dylan Boll single.
Making the start in right field for the Lions, junior
Evan High went 2-for-4 with two singles on the day.
Today's 6-3 loss puts the Lions at 8-14, 6-11, while the Crusaders improve to a conference best 21-8, 12-4 on the season. The series will resume on Saturday as Alvernia travels across town for a doubleheader at Kelchner Field starting at 12 p.m.
