Baseball Drops Series Opener at Alvernia, 6-3

Box Score

Following a non-conference loss to PSU Harrisburg, the Albright College baseball team dropped the first game of a three-game series with Alvernia University by a score of 6-3.

The Crusaders drew first blood on a Ben Sawyer sacrifice fly off of pitcher Jared Neiheiser, giving Alvernia the 1-0 lead.

In the fourth inning, Alvernia was able to add to their one run lead when Sawyer blasted a three-run home run, accounting for his fourth RBI of the day, making the score 4-0.

The Lions put themselves on the board in the sixth inning when Gabe Santone singled to center, scoring Nate Peiffer who reached on a fielders choice earlier in the inning.

Jason Clapper's triple in the bottom of the sixth extended the Crusader lead to 5-1.  The four-run deficit proved to be insurmountable for the Lions, despite scoring two runs in the seventh off of a John Medvecky walk and a Dylan Boll single.

Making the start in right field for the Lions, junior Evan High went 2-for-4 with two singles on the day.

Today's 6-3 loss puts the Lions at 8-14, 6-11, while the Crusaders improve to a conference best 21-8, 12-4 on the season. The series will resume on Saturday as Alvernia travels across town for a doubleheader at Kelchner Field starting at 12 p.m.
