The Albright men's lacrosse team's upset bid came up just short as the Lions lost 10-9 at home to #12 Montclair State on Saturday.

The winning goal came with 3:12 remaining, as Montclair's Michael Schreck lept to finish off Don Finn's pass across the goal area.

Albright had several chances over the final minute to force overtime. T.J. Holston tried to touch in Philip Potter's pass right in front, but put it over with 54 seconds on the clock. Cam Cetrone fired inches wide with 10 seconds remaining, and Holston was saved as time expired.

Senior goalie Jordan DiZenzo made 16 saves in the game, while Sean Cunningham forced a pair of turnovers. Junior Darian Meador won 15-of-22 faceoffs, had six ground balls, and contributed on the defensive end as well.

Holton had a hat trick to lead Albright's attack, with Cetrone scoring twice.

DiZenzo saved Finn from close range early in the contest. Cetrone finished off a hard shot, from Andrew Potter, to open the scoring. Albright won the ensuing faceoff, with MSU goalie Mike Dorn (13 saves) making a nice save on Holston.

MSU tied the game at 1-1 and Albright's Matthew Lomady ripped a shot off the underside of the crossbar. The Red Hawks failed on a clear and Cetrone went right past his defender for a 2-1 Albright lead.

Sophomore Matt Wighard picked up a loose ball with 5:51 left in the first quarter and beat Dorn to make it 3-1. Montclair State answered with two, but Holston gave the Lions a 4-3 lead heading into the second period.

DiZenzo made a nice save on Connor Cunningham in the second quarter. Mike Southwick beat the goalie from the right side for a 5-3 lead, and the Lions still led at the break despite a two-goal run from the visitors.

Montclair State rallied in the third quarter, scoring three straight to complete a four-goal run. Lomady hit the crossbar for a second time, but the Lions finally got a man-up goal from Bryan Smith to stay close at 7-6 down.

Albright's defense faced a 6-on-4 but DiZenzo saved Alex Hahn and the Red and White cleared. Holston scored man-up to make it 8-7, and Dorn followed with a huge save on Holston as the Lions attempted to tie heading into the fourth quarter.

Holston battled past two defenders to tie the game at 9-9 with 8:10 to play. DiZenzo made a crucial save on Brett Mangan in transition, after the Lions had turned the ball over.

Albright was facing its fourth nationally-ranked opponent of the season, following a 14-8 road win at #18 St. Mary's, and home losses to Cortland State and Stevenson (both #3 at the time). The Lions are 2-5 over the last two years against ranked opponents.

Albright (8-5) will host local Commonwealth opponent Alvernia on Wednesday at 7 p.m., in the Lions' final home game of the regular season. Montclair State improves to 13-1 on the year.
