Box ScoreDespite outshooting the Pride and winning 13-of-17 faceoffs, the Albright College men's lacrosse team was kept quiet by Widener in a 10-4 loss on Wednesday.
The sides had split four meetings over the past two years with three of them going to overtime, but Widener earned the first emphatic win of the series behind hat tricks from
Marc Feldman and
Marc La Vine, and 16 saves from All-American goalie
Mac Nestler.
Junior
Darian Meador won 13-of-17 faceoffs and added five ground balls. Senior
Jordan DiZenzo made 11 saves, and midfielder
Kyle McCabe also picked up five ground balls.
Junior
Philip Potter scored once and recorded his 99th career assist. The other Lion goals came from
T.J. Holston,
Cam Cetrone and
Matthew Lomady.
The Lions won all five first quarter faceoffs but still found themselves trailing 4-0 after the period.
After Meador won the opening draw,
Andrew Potter's shot was saved by Nestler. The Pride moved the ball around, eventually earning a timer warning, before
Robert Clemens opened the scoring.
Holston hit the post and Widener cleared the other way, with Feldman scoring for a 2-0 lead. Meador won another faceoff but
Mike Southwick's shot was saved and
Vince Marra tallied at the other end to make it 3-0.
Albright earned a one-minute power play on a cross check, but couldn't record a shot on goal. Widener came down and struck through La Vine 40 seconds before the end of the quarter.
The Lions fall to 4-4, 1-2 and continue Commonwealth Conference play on Saturday, at home vs. Messiah.
