Sophomore
Erin Farrell and
Amanda Smith each had a hat trick for the Lions. Smith added five draw controls and three caused turnovers.
Newcomers
Mariah Cullen and
Katie Johnson scored twice each. Junior
Meghan Wilson added an assist, three ground balls and two caused turnovers. Sophomore goalie
Emily Hutson recorded eight saves in 49:33 of action.
Farrell scored with 28:47 remaining to tie the contest at 8-8. Widener answered eight seconds later however, with Cullen later scoring to keep the Lions within one at 11-10.
Mackenzie Lindquist's free position shot with 19:33 remaining made it 13-10 Widener and forced Albright to take a timeout. A free position chance for Smith was saved as the Lions were held scoreless for a stretch of almost 15 minutes.
Smith finally broke the slump with 7:22 remaining to keep the score close at 14-11. Wilson won the ensuing draw, but a caused turnover by Lindquist gave possession back to the Pride.
The first half opened with three one-goal Albright leads being erased by Widener free position shots. The Pride then went ahead 4-3 and Widener goalie
Megan Dunn made saves on
Tori Meyer,
Rebecca Sartorio and
Katie Johnson.
Farrell cut to the middle and finished off Wilson's pass to tie the game at 4-4 with 12:07 left in the first half. Wilson later hit the post, but
Lexi Garapola scored after Albright controlled the rebound to put the Lions on top 6-5.
Lindquist rattled the cage at the other end, and the Pride also followed up with a goal- this one from
Megan Mills. Garapola struck another pipe last in the first half, before Sartorio scored with just two seconds on the clock to keep the Lions within one at halftime, 8-7.
Widener won the draw battle handily, holding a 19-10 advantage as Albright controlled just five in each half.
The Lions are 5-7, 0-2 and travel to Messiah on Saturday for another Commonwealth Conference game. Widener is 2-7, 2-1.
