Sophomore
Erin Farrell led Albright with a hat trick, while
Giuliana Rizzotti and
Amanda Smith scored twice each. Smith also set a new school single game record with nine ground balls.
Messiah's attack was led by the quartet of
Lizzy Keeney (six goals, four assists),
Madi Brunk (six goals),
Brooke Gamble (six assists) and
Claire Stikeleather (two goals, four assists).
Five minutes into the game, Rizzotti answered an early Messiah goal to tie the contest at 1-1. The Falcons held Albright scoreless for the next 12:36, opening up an 8-1 lead before Smith broke the Lions' slump.
Junior
Meghan Wilson scored with 6:49 remaining in the first half. Smith won the ensuing draw and fed Rizzotti for another quick strike just 18 seconds later. Wilson won the draw and nearly scored again, but her shot was saved by
Sarah Dolan.
The hosts led 15-5 at the half, and 17-5 with under 15 minutes to play. The Lions went on a 4-0 run at that point, with Smith and
Rebecca Sartorio scoring followed by a pair of Farrell goals.
Freshman
Hayley Joyce made her first career start in the cage, taking the loss after 30 minutes played. Sophomore
Emily Hutson stopped 4-of-7 shots in the second half.
Albright is 5-8 and 0-3 Commonwealth after opening league play against three of last year's playoff teams. The Lions will travel to Lebanon Valley College on Wednesday.
