Baseball Concludes Season vs. Kutztown at FirstEnergy Stadium

Box Score

The Albright College baseball team wrapped up the season at FirstEnergy Stadium against Kutztown University, with the Division II Golden Bears taking a one-hit, 7-0 victory.

Junior Max Dundore recorded Albright's hit, while Seth Heffner (1.2 IP), Mat Costa, Brian Kurtz, Trey Eberly and Phillip Angelastro all threw shutout innings for the Red and White.

After the Lions went down 1-2-3 to start the contest, Kyle Stoudt went to third on a single, two-base error and scored the game's opening run on Travis Kreitz's sacrifice fly.

Dundore led off the second inning with a single, but Drew DeShong caught a hard-hit Collin Hecker liner and doubled Dundore off at the bag.

After the Golden Bears got another run home in the second, Joe Peters singled in Kreitz and Stoudt in the third. Kutztown led 5-0 at the end of the frame following a pair of Lion errors.

John Dockins legged out a leadoff triple in the bottom of the fourth with some impressive speed. A hard liner caught by Nate Peiffer helped the Lions get out of the jam though.

The Golden Bears loaded the bases with no out in the bottom of the seventh. After Ricky Gorrell's RBI single, Eberly came in and struck out the side to limit the damage- with the final two batters caught looking.

Freshman Nathan Fretz reached first in the top of the ninth on an error, but the next two Lions struck out to end the game.

Dave King, Zach Wasson, Matt Matricardi, Nick Fulop, Mike Kammerer and Patrick Flynn combined for seven no-hit innings down the stretch for Kutztown.

Albright concludes its 2014 campaign with a mark of 13-16-1, while Kutztown (27-19) will head to the PSAC championships on Wednesday.
