Men's Lax Takes Overtime Thriller vs. LVC on Southwick Winner

Box Score

Mike Southwick scored the game winner after the Albright College men's lacrosse team had dodged several bullets in overtime, capping a thrilling 7-6 win over Lebanon Valley in Shirk Stadium.

An offsides penalty gave LVC a man-up opportunity in OT. Albright goalie Jordan DiZenzo saved Jacques Mercer and the Lions quickly countered the other way, with Bryan Smith feeding Mike Southwick for the winner with 15 seconds remaining on the clock.

LVC faceoff man Scott Travers had rattled the post earlier in the overtime period with a chance to win it for the visitors. The Dutchmen also had possession at the end of regulation, but couldn't get a good shot off before the horn.

Nearly lost in the late-game excitement was junior T.J. Holston becoming the first Albright lacrosse player to reach 100 career goals. His milestone tally came with 6:22 remaining in the second quarter and gave the Lions a 3-2 lead.

Holston and freshman Andrew Potter each finished with two goals and an assist on the night. Smith had a goal and two assists, including the big helper in overtime.

LVC jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first quarter. Southwick limited the damage with a high rip to halve the deficit within the final 10 seconds of the period.

Southwick also hit a post early in the first quarter, with LVC's Malik Pedroso pinging two shots off the pipes in a span of just 35 seconds later in the period.

Ryan Lanigan won the ground ball off the second half's opening faceoff and found fellow Dutchman Jordan Mayr for the quick strike just 11 seconds in, giving LVC a 4-3 lead.

The Lions finished the third quarter strong, with A. Potter coming from behind the cage to make it 6-4 Albright with 3:37 left in the period. LVC responded with two in the fourth to force extra time.

Lebanon Valley goalie Mike Moll had 14 saves, including several tough stops. He blocked consecutive lasers from Matthew Lomady and James Egleston in the first quarter, and added a nice save on Cam Cetrone in the third quarter with Albright trying to open up some separation.

Albright improves to 6-4, 3-2 and will host Goucher College on Saturday. LVC falls to 6-5, 2-3.
