Albright Seeks to Continue Roll at Alvernia

READING, Pa. -- The Albright women's basketball team will have a lot on the line when it faces rival Alvernia on Wednesday (Jan. 21) at 6 p.m. on Jack McCloskey Court.

Albright, which is 12-4 on the season and sitting in second place in the Commonwealth Conference standings with a 6-1 mark, has won four consecutive games overall, has won four straight road games, has won four consecutive conference games and has won four consecutive games versus Alvernia.

"Those streaks are a result of the team focusing on the task at hand," said head coach Janice Luck. "If you play in the moment and not concern yourself with those types of streaks they will take care of themselves. Our goal is to beat Alvernia and if we do that then we will focus on the next game."

The Lions, who have won 10 of their last 12 games, also have a chance to reach the halfway point of the Commonwealth season with a 7-1 mark for only the third time in school history. Albright started the conference season with a 7-1 record during both the 2006-07 and 2007-08 seasons.

Albright has been led by the play of junior Kelecia Harris who has been named the conference player of the week four times this season. She is averaging 15.4 points and 11.1 rebounds per game while shooting 59.8 percent from the floor.

Sophomore Shannon Thomas, who is coming off of a career-best 22-point effort against Hood, is second on the team averaging 11.4 points per game and she leads the team with 60 assists and 26 three-point baskets.

Jessica Venturelli, who is the lone senior starter on the team, is averaging 11.7 points, 4.0 assists and 3.7 rebounds per game over the last three contests. She has reached double figures in scoring in all three games and is shooting 50.0 percent from the floor.

Albright is currently ranked fifth in the nation averaging 32.6 defensive rebounds per game and is ranked 15th in the nation shooting 44.5 percent from the floor.

Alvernia is currently 6-9 on the season and 2-5 in the Commonwealth Conference.
