Ringgold Lifts Albright to 59-58 Victory over Stevenson

READING, Pa. – Omari Ringgold scored a layup with 0.6 seconds remaining in regulation lifting Albright to a dramatic 59-58 Commonwealth Conference victory over Stevenson on Saturday in the Bollman Center.

With the Lions trailing 58-57, Jaylin Calloway fired up a three-pointer which was off the mark but Ringgold gathered in the rebound and scored to give the Lions the victory.

The play capped a wild final 30 seconds of regulation.

The Lions rallied from three points down to take a 57-56 lead with 22 seconds to play when DeJuan Smith connected on a short jumper.

Stevenson regained the lead when Sean Farr beat everyone down the floor for a breakaway dunk for a 58-57 lead with 18 seconds to play.

The Lions fouled Colby Giacubeno with 10 seconds to play and he missed the front end of a one-and-one free-throw attempt.

Ringgold grabbed the rebound, which set up the game-winning heroics.

Ringgold finished with 11 points and 10 rebounds for his first career double-double, while Gilberto Benz led Albright with 16 points.

Stevenson was led by Erik Fisher who had 16 points. Christian Roberts had 15 points and Chris Day added 10 points for the Mustangs.

Albright, which improved to 6-5 overall and 2-1 in the Commonwealth Conference, shot just 35.0 percent from the floor but used a huge rebounding advantage to post the win. The Lions outrebounded the Mustangs 47-28 and outscored Stevenson 26-6 on second-chance points.

Stevenson fell to 9-3 overall and suffered its first conference loss of the season to fall to 2-1 in league play.

Stevenson held a 30-26 lead at halftime and extended the lead to 35-44 with 13:04 to play following a pair of free throws by Day.

The Mustangs held a 52-46 advantage with 6:02 to play before the Lions rallied.

Albright used a 7-0 run, sparked by three points from Ringgold, to take a 53-52 lead with 2:48 to play in the game.

Roberts put Stevenson back in front with a layup and the Mustangs pushed the lead to 56-53 on a jumper by Fisher with 1:42 to play.

Benz made a pair of free throws to cut the lead to 56-55 setting the stage for the dramatic finish.

Albright will return to action on Wednesday (Jan. 7) when it visits Lycoming for an 8 p.m. Commonwealth Conference game.
