WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Junior
Kelecia Harris scored 13 points and grabbed 10 rebounds leading the Albright women's basketball team to a 61-54 Commonwealth Conference victory over Lycoming on Wednesday in Lamade Gymnasium.
Harris scored all 13 of her points in the second half helping the Lions rally from a 31-28 halftime deficit.
Sophomore
Shannon Thomas led Albright with 14 points, while
Jane Joyce added 11 points and
Emily O'Donnell grabbed a career-high 15 rebounds.
Albright, which improved to 9-4 overall and 3-1 in the Commonwealth, shot 50.0 percent from the floor for the game including 52.6 percent in the second half.
Lycoming, which fell to 9-4 overall and 2-3 in conference play, was led by Ali Derr who scored 12 points. Chelsea Henderson added 11 points for the Warriors and Janelle Ziminski had six points and nine rebounds.
Albright limited Lycoming to just 20.0 percent shooting from the field in the second half.
Albright raced out of the gate to an early 12-4 lead behind a pair of three-point baskets from
Jessica Venturelli.
After O'Donnell gave Albright a 14-9 lead with a layup with 12:58 remaining in the first half, Lycoming responded with a 10-0 run to take a 19-14 lead.
Olivia Manges gave Lycoming its largest lead of the game at 31-23 when she connected on a three-pointer with 1:15 to play in the first period.
Albright closed the first half with a 5-0 run to cut the lead to 31-28 at the intermission.
Derr gave Lycoming a 33-28 lead with a jumper with 19:30 to play, but the Lions rallied to regain the lead.
Albright used an 8-0 run, keyed by three-pointers by Thomas and
Morgan Harris, to take a 36-33 lead with 15:25 left in the game.
The Lions extended the lead to as many as six points, but Lycoming rallied to tie the game at 52-52 on a basket by Victoria Siebecker with 2:48 left in the game.
Kelecia Harris put the Lions ahead to stay at 54-52 when she scored on a layup with 2:31 to play.
Albright made 5-of-8 free-throw attempts in the final minute to close out the victory.
The Lions will return to action on Saturday (Jan. 10) when they host Messiah at 4 p.m. in the Bollman Center.
