ALTOONA, Pa. -- Albright freshman
Katie Schmerse had six kills and five digs, but the Lion volleyball team dropped a non-conference match to Penn State-Altoona 25-14, 25-19, 25-14 on Friday in Adler Gymnasium.
Sophomore
Maddy Greth posted a team-high seven kills for Albright, while
Nicole Vazquez added three kills.
Albright, which dropped to 3-12 overall on the season, was held to an -.020 attack percentage for the match as it had 18 kills and 20 errors in 100 attempts.
Freshman
Becca Davis notched a team-high 13 digs for the Lions, while Greth and
Claudia Guise each had six digs. Schmerse and
Sarah Clark added five digs each.
Tori Shingler notched 13 kills to lead Penn State-Altoona, and Amanda Hammer added nine kills. Led by Shingler and Hammer, the Nittany Lions hit .238 for the match.
Penn State-Altoona raced out to a 9-4 lead in the first set and held the lead throughout on its way to a 25-14 win.
Albright held an 11-9 lead in the second set before Penn State-Altoona rallied. Two kills by Becky Britton keyed a 5-0 run that propelled Penn State-Altoona to a 14-11 lead.
Two kills by Schmerse and a kill by Greth sparked a 4-1 Albright lead that tied the set at 15-15. But the Nittany Lions slowly pulled away to secure the 25-19 second-set win.
Penn State-Altoona jumped out to a big lead in the third set and led 7-2. Albright rallied to within 14-10, but couldn't get within four points for the remainder of the set as the Nittany Lions won 25-14.
Albright returns to the Bollman Center on Wednesday (Oct. 7) when it hosts Lebanon Valley in a MAC Commonwealth match at 7 p.m.
