COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – The Albright women's basketball remained undefeated by defeating Ursinus 71-47 from Helffrich Hall Tuesday evening in non-conference play as
Kelecia Harris made her first start of the season and scored a team-high 16 points.
With the victory Albright improves to 3-0 on the year, while Ursinus falls to 0-3 on the season. It marked the first time Albright has opened the season with a 3-0 record since the 2007-08 team began the season by winning its first five games.
Harris reached double figures in scoring for the first time this season as she finished the game shooting 8-of-11 from the floor and she also added eight rebounds, two blocked shots and two steals.
Alysha Lofton and
Emily O'Donnell also reached double figures in scoring for the Lions. Lofton scored 12 points and has scored in double figures in all three games this season, while O'Donnell finished with 10 points.
Albright shot a season-high 53.6 percent from the floor, including a blistering 65.4 percent in the second half.
Albright used an 8-2 run in the first quarter, sparked by three-pointers from Lofton and
Shannon Thomas, to take a 12-6 lead. The Lions took a 14-8 lead after the first quarter when O'Donnell converted a layup with 51 seconds remaining in the opening period.
A layup by
Devan Horka jump started an 8-0 run that gave Albright a 26-10 lead with 2:10 to play before halftime.
Caroline Shimrock, who led all scorers with 17 points, hit a three-pointer and a jumper to cut the Albright lead to 28-19 at halftime.
Harris keyed a run in the third quarter that helped Albright pull away. She scored six consecutive points and Lofton added a layup that pushed the Albright lead to 47-30 with 3:31 to play in the third quarter.
O'Donnell converted back-to-back layups to close the quarter giving the Lions a 51-34 lead.
With less than three minutes left to play in the game the Lions took their largest lead of the night at 69-41 when
Amara-Niani Jackson buried a jump shot.
Albright will return to action this weekend as it participates in the Franklin & Marshall Tip-Off Tournament. The Lions will face Washington & Lee on Saturday (Nov. 21) at 1 p.m. in their opening round game.
