Women’s Basketball Squeezes Past W&L 79-75 to Stay Unbeaten

LANCASTER, Pa. – Kelecia Harris posted her first double-double of the season as she scored a season-high 19 points and grabbed 12 rebounds leading Albright to a 79-75 victory over Washington & Lee in the first game of the Terry Greene Tip-Off Classic from the Mayser Center on the campus of Franklin & Marshall Saturday afternoon.

With the victory, Albright remains unbeaten on the season at 4-0, while W&L drops to 0-2 on the season. The 4-0 start is the second best in program history as the team looks to tie the all-time record of 5-0 dating back to the 2007-08 season.

In the game, four other players hit for double figures as the Lions featured a balanced attack. Joyce finished with a season-high 13 points, while freshman MiKayla Lee had 12 points and Alysha Lofton and Nina Mazzarelli each finished with 11.

Joyce and Mazzarelli each added five assists for Albright.

Lofton reached double figures for the fourth consecutive game and also added six rebounds, two steals and an assist.

The Lions made a total of 21-of-28 free throw attempts to finish with a season-high 75 percent.

The Generals closed the first quarter on a 5-0 run to cut the Lions lead to 20-19.

Albright opened the second quarter with a 6-0 run, which featured four points from Lea, to extend the lead to 26-19 with 5:53 left before halftime.

A three-pointer by Emily Persyk cut the Lions lead to 32-29, but Thomas sparked a 7-2 run with a three-pointer and a layup to up the lead to 39-31.

Jackie Clifford drained a three-pointer at the buzzer to trim the Albright lead to 39-34 at the break.

Albright stretched the lead to 11 points on two occasions in the third quarter and held a comfortable 56-47 advantage heading into the final quarter.

A layup by Lea and a three-point play by Emily O'Donnell gave the Lions their largest lead of the contest at 63-50 with 6:46 to play.

The Lions held a 70-61 lead before the Generals used a 7-0 run to cut the lead to 70-68 with 2:24 to play.

Baskets by Joyce and Mazzarelli and a free throw from Thomas increased the Albright lead to 75-68 with 38 seconds to play.

Washington and Lee would climb to within three points on two occasions, but could get no closer.
