OWINGSMILLS, Md. – Albright junior
Kelecia Harris scored 23 points, but Sara Tarbert scored 30 points and Stevenson extended its winning streak to 15 straight with a 68-50 Commonwealth Conference victory over the Lions on Wednesday in the Owings Mills Gymnasium.
The Mustangs remained in first place in the Commonwealth Conference by improving to 11-0 and also raised their overall record to 17-2 on the season.
Albright, which dropped its second straight game, dropped to 14-6 overall and 8-3 in conference play.
The Lions outshot the Mustangs, 40.0 percent to 35.6 percent, but Albright was plagued by turnovers for the second straight contest. Albright had 31 turnovers which led to 24 Stevenson points on the night.
Harris finished the game 10-of-14 from the floor and also added 13 rebounds to post her 12
th double-double of the season.
Shannon Thomas added 10 points for Albright, while
Kadijah Bishop finished with eight rebounds.
Tarbert was the only Stevenson player to reach double figures in scoring as Stephanie Martinez added nine points for the Mustangs.
Stevenson took control of the game midway through the first half.
After a basket by
Morgan Harris tied the game at 16-16, Stevenson responded with a 15-2 run, fueled by seven points from Tarbert, to take a 31-18 lead with 1:35 to play in the opening period.
Emily O'Donnell scored with 49 seconds to play, which cut the Mustangs lead to 31-20 at the intermission.
Stevenson then opened the second half on an 8-0 run, which included six points from Tarbert, to extend the lead to 39-20 with 17:49 to play in the game.
A layup by Tarbert gave the Mustangs a 50-31 lead with 11:36 to play, but Albright would rally.
Thomas capped a 9-1 Albright run with a three-pointer that cut the Stevenson lead to 51-40 with 6:50 to play in the game.
The Mustangs used four points from Tarbert during a 7-1 run that pushed the Mustangs lead to 58-41 with 4:48 to play.
Stevenson took its largest lead of the game at 66-45 when Abbey DeFeo made a three-pointer with 1:27 left in the game.
Albright returns to the Bollman Center on Saturday (Feb. 7) as it hosts Lycoming in a Commonwealth Conference game at 2 p.m.
