FORT PIERCE, Fla. –
Nathan Fretz and
Zachary Kiebler each drove in two runs during a decisive six-run eighth inning and
Zach Krause pitched two scoreless innings in relief to lead Albright to a 12-7 victory over Western Connecticut State on Sunday at Lawnwood Complex.
The Lions and the Colonials entered the top of the eighth inning tied at 6-6 before Albright exploded with six runs to pull away.
With one out,
John Medvecky and
Dylan Boll drew walks to jump start the inning.
Gabe Santone plated the Lions first run of the inning when he delivered a single that scored Medvecky putting Albright in front 7-6.
Pinch-runner
Antoine Galloway stole third base and came in to score when
Max Dundore reached on an infield single giving the Lions an 8-6 lead.
With two outs,
Micah Storms drew a walk to load the bases. Kiebler then delivered a clutch single to left that scored Santone and Dundore giving the Lions a 10-6 advantage.
Brandon Triantos reached on an infield bunt single to load the bases and Fretz added two more runs with a single to right that pushed the lead to 12-6.
Krause, who entered the game in the bottom of the sixth inning, retired the side in the bottom of the eighth inning.
Albright improved to 2-0 on the season, while Western Connecticut State dropped to 1-2 overall.
Fretz, Medvecky, Kiebler and Triantos each had two hits to lead the Albright offensive attack.
Albright jumped out to a 5-0 lead only to see the Colonials storm back into the game. Western Connecticut scored one run in the third inning and then took a 6-5 lead with a five-run fourth inning.
Mat Costa,
Philip Angelastro and Krause combined to hold Western Connecticut scoreless over the next five innings, which allowed the Lions to rally for the victory.
