MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. –
Morgan Cullen went 3-for-3 and
Armida Roman had two hits and drove in two runs in support of
Sammi O'Connor who tossed a two-hit shutout as Albright defeated Morrisville State 8-0 on Wednesday.
Albright, which remained undefeated on the season at 5-0, recorded its fourth consecutive shutout victory.
O'Connor dominated the Mustangs as she struck out 12 batters, including the first nine outs recorded. She allowed only a first-inning double and a leadoff single in the second inning and didn't walk a batter in her five innings of work.
Cullen was 3-for-3, scored a run and drove in a run while Roman scored a pair of runs and also drove in two runs for the Lions.
Albright, which reached double figures in the hit column for the fourth straight game, pounded out 13 hits against Morrisvile State starter Brittany Keator.
Brianne Long had two hits and drove in a run, while
Kaela Romano had two RBI for the Lions. O'Connor added a pair of hits and
Hannah Belair and
Zoe Robertson each had a base hit.
Albright broke though with four runs in the bottom of the third inning.
Robertson singled and Long followed with a bunt single to begin the rally.
Regina Milburn sacrificed both runners up a base and Romano delivered a two-run single getting Albright on the scoreboard.
After a groundout, Roman doubled in Romano to extend the Albright lead to 3-0. Roman advanced to third on a wild pitch and came in to score on a Mustang fielding error.
The Lions would end the game by scoring four times in the bottom of the fifth inning.
O'Connor ripped a double to begin the decisive inning. Pinch runner
Nicole Forktus advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored when Roman hit her second double of the game giving the Lions a 5-0 lead.
Cullen plated Roman with an RBI single that pushed the lead to 6-0 and back-to-back singles by Belair and Long scored Cullen giving the Lions a 7-0 lead.
Albright ended the game via the run rule when Belair scored on a wild pitch.
Albright will return to action on Thursday (March 19) when it faces Rutgers-Newark at 9:30 a.m.
