Albright Suffers First Loss of Season on Walk-Off Home Run

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – Regina Milburn and Armida Roman each homered, but Kelly Yusko hit a walk-off homer leading Rutgers-Newark to an 8-7 victory over Albright handing the Lions their first loss of the season on Thursday.

Albright broke a 5-5 deadlock by scoring a pair of runs in the top of the seventh inning against the Raiders.

Brianne Long led off the inning with a double and advanced to third when Milburn laid down a sacrifice bunt.

Kaela Romano followed with a walk and stole second base. Sammi O'Connor then provided a clutch two-run single that scored both Long and Romano and gave the Lions a 7-5 lead.

With two outs, Kelsey Lucas began the Rutgers-Newark rally with a single. Anna Carlson followed with a single and Lucas came in to score on an Albright error. Yusko then delivered a walk-off home run giving the Raiders the 8-7 victory.

Albright suffered its first loss of the season and dropped to 5-1 overall, while Rutgers-Newark improved to 4-3 with the victory.

Albright recorded 11 hits on the day, which marked the fifth consecutive game the Lions have reached double figures in the hit column. Long, Milburn and O'Connor each had a pair of hits to lead Albright, while Milburn, O'Connor and Roman each had two RBI.

Despite taking the loss, O'Connor broke the school record for strikeouts in a game with 15. She broke the record of 14 shared by Riley Gerenda and Ashley Young.

Yusko and Toniann Donde each drove in a pair of runs to pace the Raiders offensive attack.

Albright took an early 1-0 lead, but Rutgers-Newark rallied to score four times in the fourth inning to take a 4-1 lead.

The Lions responded with a four-run fifth inning, highlighted by two-run homers by both Milburn and Roman, to regain the lead at 5-4.

Rutgers-Newark tied the game with a run in the bottom of the sixth inning.
