FORT PIERCE, Fla. –
Gabe Santone and
Zac Okonski each had two hits, but Albright dropped a 7-2 decision to Western Connecticut State on Wednesday at the Lawnwood Complex.
Western Connecticut broke open a tight game by scoring two runs in the fourth inning and then adding single runs in the sixth, seventh and eighth innings.
Albright, which dropped to 3-3 on the season, also received base hits from
Evan High and
Daniel Louviaux, while High and
Noah Beebe accounted for the Lions runs batted in.
Mat Costa started on the mound for Albright and allowed four runs in 4.0 innings of work and
Zach Krause,
Tyler Keller and
Jake Wortman each allowed a run in relief of Costa.
Chris Callahan went 3-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI, while Joe Costa went 3-for-3 and drove in a run to lead the Colonials.
Kyle Cole went the distance on the mound for Western Connecticut to pick up the victory. He allowed six hits and struck out four batters in his 9.0 innings of work.
Western Connecticut jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning, but Albright tied the score with a run in the top of the second inning.
Santone laced a triple to start the inning and came in to score when High reached on an infield single to tie the game at 1-1.
The Colonials regained the lead in the bottom of the frame with a run and extended the lead to 4-1 with a pair of runs in the fourth.
Western Connecticut scored in the sixth, seventh and eighth innings to push the lead to 7-1 before Albright got on the board in the ninth inning.
Okonski doubled to lead off the inning and advanced to third on a fly out by Santone. He scored the Lions second run on an RBI groundout by Beebe.
