READING, Pa. – Seniors
Evan High and
Gabe Santone each had three hits and drove in a pair of runs leading Albright to a doubleheader sweep of Hood on Sunday at Kelchner Stadium.
The Lions won the first game 5-3 and completed the sweep with a 4-1 victory in the nightcap.
Albright also completed the season sweep of the Blazers and raised its overall record to 6-5 and improved to 4-3 in the Commonwealth Conference. Hood dropped to 3-12 on the season and 0-9 in conference play with the two losses.
Santone led the Lions to the game one win as he was 2-for-3 with two RBI, including the game-winning double in the fifth inning.
Hood scored two times in the top of the fifth inning to take a 3-2 lead before the Lions rallied in the bottom of the frame.
Nathan Fretz drew a one-out walk to begin the rally and moved into scoring position by stealing second base. After a fly out,
Dylan Boll was intentionally walked and both runners moved up on a wild pitch.
Santone then drilled a two-out double that scored both Fretz and Boll to give Albright a 4-3 advantage.
After a walk to
Zac Okonski,
Max Dundore singled to center bringing home Santone to give Albright a 5-3 lead.
Trevor Mastria worked the final two innings by allowing just one hit in picking up his second save of the season.
Hood struck for a run in the top of the second inning, but Albright responded with two runs in the bottom of the inning.
With two out, Dundore drew a walk and
Micah Storms reached on a Hood error. High then ripped a double to right center to score Dundore and Storms giving the Lions a 2-1 lead.
Jared Neiheiser pitched five innings and struck out two batters to raise his record to 2-1 on the season.
Timely hitting and four Albright pitchers combined to give the Lions the win in the second game.
Albright jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the second inning when Fretz singled up the middle to plate
Zachary Kiebler who had walked earlier in the inning.
The Lions made it 2-0 in the fourth inning when
Brandon Triantos scored on a Hood throwing error.
Albright extended the lead to 4-0 in the bottom of the fifth inning.
Boll singled to right center to start the inning and one out later Dundore singled to right. High then doubled down the leftfield line to score Boll and give the Lions a 3-0 lead.
Storms produced the Lions fourth run of the game when he reached on a fielder's choice and Dundore scored from third.
Dylan Price,
Aaron Forker,
Zach Krause and
Mat Costa combined to limit the Blazers to just five hits and one run, while striking out a combined seven batters.
Forker got the win in relief and Costa picked up the save for the Lions.
