Lions Rally Falls Short in 11-10 Loss at Arcadia

GLENSIDE, Pa. – Junior Amanda Smith scored three goals and added an assist, but a furious Albright rally fell short as the Lions lost to Arcadia 11-10 in a Commonwealth Conference game on Wednesday at Easton Field.

Albright, which dropped to 7-4 overall and 1-2 in conference play, fell behind 9-3 before staging a rally in the second half which ultimately fell one goal short.

Erin Misner opened the second half with a goal for Arcadia that increased the lead to 9-3 with 26:22 to play in the game.

Albright then produced back-to-back man-down goals to get back into the game. Mariah Cullen scored with 24:10 remaining to cut the lead to 9-4 and Smith scored on a free-position shot to bring the Lions to within 9-5 with 23:56 remaining.

Misner tallied her 24th goal of the season with 22:51 left to up the lead to 10-5, but Smith answered with a free-position goal at the 15:52 mark of the second period to cut the margin to 10-6.

Sydney Nankervis followed with a free-position goal with 12:57 to play that brought Albright to within 10-7.

Nicole Hutson increased the Arcadia lead to 11-7 with an unassisted goal with 8:56 to play, but the Lions did not go away.

Danielle Carey scored with 4:00 left to trim the lead to 11-8, and Jacqui Montague cut the Arcadia lead to 11-9 on an unassisted goal with 2:31 to play.

Carey then added her 19th goal of the season on a free-position shot with 1:11 to play that closed the lead to 11-10.

Albright's Erin Farrell won the ensuing draw control, but the Lions turned the ball over and Arcadia cleared and ran out the clock to secure the victory.

Carey finished with three goals for Albright, while Farrell, Nankervis, Montague and Cullen each had one goal. Meghan Wilson added an assist for the Lions.

Emily Hutson made five saves in goal for Albright.

Arcadia, which raised its record to 9-2 on the season and 2-1 in league play, was led by Adeline Bellesheim who scored four goals and had an assist to finish with five points. Dawn Faranetta and Erin Misner each had two goals for the Knights.

Arcadia jumped out to a 5-0 lead to start the game before Farrell scored her 30th goal of the season at the 19:00 mark to get Albright on the board.

Two goals by Bellesheim helped increase the Knights lead to 8-2 before Smith scored for Albright to cut the lead to 8-3 at the intermission.

Albright will return to action on April 8 when it visits Alvernia for a 7 p.m. Commonwealth Conference game.
