READING, Pa. – Junior
Amanda Smith scored three second-half goals leading the Albright women's lacrosse team to a 10-7 Commonwealth Conference victory over Alvernia on Wednesday at the Alvernia Turf Field.
Albright held a slim 4-3 lead at the intermission, but opened the second half with a three-goal outburst.
Erin Farrell started the second half with an unassisted goal at the 21:27 mark of the second period.
Smith then followed with back-to-back goals to increase the Lions lead to 7-3 with 18:03 remaining in the game.
Alvernia answered with a pair of goals to trim the lead to 7-5, but Albright responded with three straight goals.
Corinne Donahue scored her second goal of the game to up the Albright lead to 8-5, and Smith and
Meghan Wilson followed with goals to increase the margin to 10-5 with 11:45 to play.
Wilson, Farrell and Donahue each finished with two goals for Albright, while
Mariah Cullen also scored for the Lions.
Emily Hutson picked up the win in goal for Albright as she made five saves on the night.
Jacquelyn Strange led Alvernia with three goals, while Brooke Campione added two goals.
Albright improved to 8-4 overall and 2-2 in the Commonwealth Conference, while Alvernia dropped to 5-5 overall and 1-3 in conference play.
Albright returns to action on April 15 when it hosts Messiah in a Commonwealth Conference game beginning at 7 p.m.
