Erin Farrell Scores Three Goals in Loss to Messiah

READING, Pa.Erin Farrell scored three goals, but Messiah raced out to a big early lead and defeated Albright 15-5 in a Commonwealth Conference game on Wednesday at John Gurski Stadium.

The Falcons, who entered the contest ranked 16th in the nation, jumped out to a 12-3 advantage in the first half.

Carly Bajus and Madi Brunk each had three goals to lead the Falcons, while Claire Stikeleather added two goals. Ten different players scored goals for Messiah as the Falcons outshot Albright 29-10.

Farrell had her sixth game this season with at least three goals to lead the Lions. Corinne Donohue and Amanda Smith also found the back of the net for Albright, while Mariah Cullen notched a pair of assists.

Alexa Dipeso made three saves in goal to improve to 9-4 on the season, while Emily Hutson made seven saves for Albright but dropped to 8-5 on the year.

Bajus scored a pair of early goals helping Messiah take a 4-0 lead with 22:04 to play in the first period.

Farrell got Albright on the board with an unassisted goal with 20:52 to play in the opening half to cut the lead to 4-1.

Brunk then scored two goals during a 3-0 run that upped the Messiah lead to 7-1 at the 14:51 mark of the first.

Smith tallied her 38th goal of the season on a free-position shot to cut the lead to 7-2, but Messiah answered with four straight goals to increase the margin to 11-2.

Farrell scored her 34th of the season, and second of the game, to bring Albright to within 11-3 but Stikeleather scored with 1:15 to play before the intermission giving the Falcons a 12-3 lead at the break.

Messiah opened the second half by scoring two goals to increase the lead to 14-3 before Donohue scored her 10th goal of the season to cut the lead to 14-4.

Farrell tallied her 35th goal of the season with 3:17 to play in the second half.

Albright will visit Lycoming on Saturday (April 18) in a Commonwealth Conference game beginning at 1 p.m.
