READING, Pa. – Senior
Evan High hit a one-out, three-run walk-off home run leading Albright to an 8-6 victory in game two and a sweep of its Commonwealth Conference doubleheader with Lebanon Valley on Sunday at Kelchner Field.
Albright entered the bottom of the seventh inning of game two trailing the Dutchmen 6-5.
With one out,
Dylan Boll ripped a triple to right to begin the rally.
Max Dundore drew a walk and stole second base to put the winning run in scoring position.
High worked the count to 3-1 and then blasted the game-winning home run to left giving the Lions the dramatic win and a sweep of the doubleheader.
Albright won the opener 4-2 and clinched the series win against Lebanon Valley with the sweep. The Lions improved to 11-9-1 overall and raised their Commonwealth Conference record to 7-7.
Lebanon Valley dropped to 8-14 overall and 3-9 in league play with the two losses.
After falling behind 3-1 in game two the Lions began their comeback with a run in the bottom of the third inning.
Nathan Fretz lined a triple to right center to lead off the inning and came in to score on an RBI groundout by
John Medvecky to cut the lead to 3-2.
Albright took the lead with a pair of runs in the bottom of the fourth inning.
High reached on an infield single and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by
Trey Hook. Zach Kiebler tied the game at 3-3 with a two-out single to center that scored High.
The Lions took the lead when
Brandon Triantos reached on a bunt and a Lebanon Valley throwing error allowed Kiebler to race all the way around to score.
Albright tacked on a run in the fifth inning when
Gabe Santone delivered an RBI single that plated Medvecky and pushed the lead to 5-3.
Lebanon Valley regained the lead in the sixth inning by scoring three times. Zach Smith brought home a pair of runs with a single up the middle giving LVC a 6-5 lead and setting the stage for the heroics of High.
Aaron Forker worked a scoreless seventh inning to pick up the win for the Lions and improve his record to 2-0.
Albright rode the pitching of
Jared Neiheiser and the bat of Dundore to the victory in game one.
Neiheiser went 6.0 innings and allowed just two runs while striking out four to improve to 4-2 on the season.
Dundore was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and two RBI to lead the Albright offense. He blasted his second home run in as many days and also stole two bases.
Albright struck for a run in the first inning of the opener when Boll singled up the middle with one out to score Fretz who had singled to lead off the inning.
Lebanon Valley tied the game at 1-1 with a run in the third inning, but Albright regained the lead with a run in the fourth.
With two outs, Dundore reached on a Lebanon Valley error and moved into scoring position by stealing second base.
Daniel Louviaux delivered an RBI single to left that scored Dundore and increased the Albright lead to 2-1.
The Dutchmen responded with a run in the sixth inning, but Albright took the lead for good in the bottom of the inning via the long ball.
Boll started the game-winning rally with a single to right and pinch runner
Adam Koval advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by
Joe Pechulis.
After a groundout, Dundore ripped a home run to left scoring Koval and giving the Lions a 4-2 advantage.
Trey Everly worked a perfect seventh inning by striking out the side to earn his third save of the season.
Albright returns to action on Monday (April 13) when it visits Widener for a Commonwealth Conference game beginning at 3:30 p.m.
