Milburn Powers The Lions to Doubleheader Sweep

READING, Pa. - Albright freshman Regina Milburn knocked in two runs in the first inning of both games to lead Albright to a doubleheader sweep over Delaware Valley Sunday afternoon at the Albright Softball Field.

Milburn finished the day with three hits in six plate appearances, including a double and her second home run of the season. She also scored three runs and drove in four.

Albright improved to 12-7 overall with a 5-0 win in the opener and an 8-0 triumph in five innings of game two.

In the opener, Millburn put the Lions on the board with a double to left center field to score Kaela Romano and Brianne Long, who had both walked to open the first, and give the Lions a quick 2-0 lead.

Sera Stull then brought Milburn home with a double to center to push the lead to 3-0.

Sammi O'Connor, who went 4-for-5 with four runs scored in the doubleheader, started a two-run rally in the third inning with a single up the middle. An out later, Armida Roman doubled to send O'Connor home. With two outs, Roman scored to make it 5-0 on a single up the middle from Morgan Cullen.

That was plenty for O'Connor who went 7.0 innings and allowed just two hits and struck out 10 without walking a batter to improve to 6-4 on the season. It was the third two-hit shutout of the season for O'Connor.

Hannah Robinson pitched the first three innings and suffered the loss for the Aggies.

After O'Conner was hit by a pitch with two outs in the first inning of the nightcap, Milburn smashed a two-run homer over the left field fence to stake the Lions to a 2-0 lead.

Albright tacked on four runs in the third inning to blow the game open. Once again O'Connor started the rally with a single to right, and the Lions loaded the bases when Roman reached on an error and Cullen drew a walk.

Freshman Nikki Russo, playing in her first games of the season for Albright, doubled down the right field line to clear the bases to push the lead to 5-0. Zoe Robertson then singled in Russo to give the Lions a 6-0 lead.

Albright added to its lead when O'Connor doubled with one out in the fourth, and later came in to score on an RBI single by Roman. Stull doubled down the left field line to score Milburn, who had singled, to make it an 8-0 contest.

Riley Gerenda improved to 6-3 on the year allowing two hits in 5.0 innings. The freshman struck out five and did not allow a walk.

Ashley Rice took the loss for Delaware Valley in game two.

Russo went 2-for-4 with a run scored and three RBI in the doubleheader, while Roman finished 3-for-7 with two runs scored and two RBI and Stull was 2-for-6 with two RBI,

Robertson collected two base hits in the nightcap and drove in a run, and Romano went 2-for-2 in the opener with a run scored. Cullen was 2-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored.

Albright returns to action with a Commonwealth Conference doubleheader at Widener on Tuesday (April 14).
