DOYLESTOWN, Pa. –
John Medvecky had three hits and drove in a run and
Dylan Boll had two RBI as Albright held off Delaware Valley 9-8 in a game that was halted after eight innings due to darkness on Monday at Frank Wolfgang Field.
Medvecky finished the game 3-for-4 and also scored four times, while Boll was 2-for-5 with a pair of runs driven in to lead Albright.
Nathan Fretz had a hit and an RBI and scored three times for the Lions, while
Gabe Santone,
Max Dundore,
Julian Cimino,
Zachary Kiebler,
Daniel Louviaux and
Micah Storms all had base hits.
Mat Costa allowed just one run in 3.2 innings of relief to pick up the victory, while
Trey Eberly recorded the final two outs of the game to notch his second save of the season.
Albright took the lead for good in the top of the sixth inning when Cimino singled to left to score Medvecky and give the Lions a 6-5 lead. The Lions tacked on runs in the seventh and eighth innings and then Eberly worked out of a jam in the bottom of the eighth inning to clinch the victory for Albright.
Albright snapped a three-game losing streak with the victory and improved to 7-8-1 on the season. Delaware Valley dropped to 6-8 overall with the loss.
Albright jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead by scoring a pair of runs in the opening frame.
Fretz walked to lead off the inning and Medvecky singled to right and both runners moved up on a wild pitch. Fretz scored the first run of the game on an Aggie error and Dundore later singled to bring home Medvecky to give the Lions a 2-0 lead.
Delaware Valley responded with three runs in the bottom of the first inning, highlighted by a two-run single, to take a 3-2 lead.
Albright regained the lead in the top of the second inning.
With two outs, Fretz started the rally with a walk and a steal of second base. He advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored when Medvecky singled to right.
Medvecky moved up a base on a wild pitch and Boll followed with a double that scored Medvecky and gave the Lions a 4-3 lead.
The Aggies once again responded, this time by scoring twice to take a 5-4 lead.
Albright used a two-run fourth inning to take back the lead at 6-5.
Fretz hit a one-out single to start the rally and then stole his second base of the game. Medvecky walked and Boll ripped a double to left that plated Fretz with the tying run.
Santone then hit a single that brought home Medvecky and put Albright back in front 6-5.
But the Aggies would once again respond as they scored a run in the bottom of the fourth inning to tie the game at 6-6.
Albright then took the lead for good when Cimino delivered his single to score Medvecky.
The Lions added a run in the seventh inning when Fretz produced a bunt that scored Louiviaux and pushed the lead to 8-6.
Albright made it 9-6 when Kiebler reached on an error that allowed Santone to score from second base.
Delaware Valley scored two runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to trim the lead to 9-8, but Eberly recorded a strikeout and induced a game-ending groundout to halt the rally.
Albright will next meet Moravian in a non-conference game on Tuesday (April 7) at 4 p.m.
