CHESTERTOWN, Md. -- Washington (Md.) scored four second-period goals on its way to a 5-0 victory over the Albright men's soccer team on Saturday at Roy Kirby Stadium.
Albright trailed by only 1-0 after the first 45 minutes, but the Shoremen broke through for four goals in the second period to pull away from the Lions.
Jack Butler scored the only goal of the first period when he found the back of the net at the 25:41 mark of the period.
Washington put the match away by scoring three goals in a 2:17 stretch of the second period.
Michael Holowesko increased the lead to 2-0 when he deflected in a free kick at the 60:52 mark of the period. Thirty nine seconds later the Shoremen made it 3-0 courtesy of an Albright own goal.
Chris Lewandowski capped the outburst with a goal at the 62:40 mark of the period and pushed the lead to 4-0.
Albright mustered six shots for the match as
Austin Phillips,
Nathan Hughes,
Andrew Sussingham,
Miles Williams,
Frank Lavery and
Jared Leckburg each had one shot.
Austin Aldinger made four saves in net for Albright before being relieved by
Jacob Gardocki late in the second period.
The Lions return to action on Monday (Sept. 14) when they visit Penn State Berks for a 3:30 p.m. match.
