READING, Pa. – The Albright field hockey team saw their four-game winning streak come to an end as Stevenson,used a late second-half goal to post a 1-0 victory over the Lions on Saturday at Shirk Stadium in the MAC Commonwealth opener for both schools.
With the setback, Albright slips to 5-4 on the year and 0-1 in conference play. Stevenson improves to 3-6 on the season and is 1-0 in conference action.
Sara McVey scored the winning goal for the Mustangs with just 2:48 to play in the game. McVey put home a rebound after
Aileen Taylor had made the initial save on a shot by Rosemarie Neiva.
Albright controlled much of the pace of play in the second half, but were unable to beat Stevenson goalie Talia Parish who made 15 saves on the afternoon.
The Lions best scoring opportunity of the second period came in the 68th minute on a penalty corner.
Mackenzie Faight passed to
Tracy Snyder but her shot sailed wide of the cage.
Taylor matched her save for save as she posted a season-high 18 stops in the match.
Both teams generated scoring opportunities in the first period, but Taylor and Parrish kept the game scoreless at the intermission.
Senior
Amanda Smith paced the offensive attack,with six shots in the game and
Amanda Long tallied four of her own with two on target.
Up next, the Lions take on Neumann in non-conference action at 4 p.m. on Wednesday (Sept. 30) in Shirk Stadium.
