Women's Volleyball Battles Hood College

READING, Pa- Senior Maddy Greth had a team-high 12 kills and 16 digs to record a double-double for the Lions in Albright's 3-1 loss to Hood College Wednesday night at the Bollman Center. The Blazers defeated Albright by scores of 20-25, 25-20, 25-21, 25-20.

Both teams duked it out during the match as the teams spent majority of each set trading points.

Despite trailing early in the first set, the Lions (8-14, 1-5 MACC) clawed their way back to take a 16-14 lead over their conference opponent. Albright and Hood (9-16, 2-5) traded the next five points before the Lions extended their lead to 23-18. The Blazers were unable to overcome the Lions' offense, and Albright held on to win set one.

After finding themselves behind 1-0 in the match, Hood started the second set with a vengeance jumping out to an 8-3 lead. Albright attempted to slow down the Blazers' momentum by calling a timeout and shift the scoreboard in their favor. The Lions fought back to find themselves down 9-7 before exchanging points throughout most of the set. With the score knotted at 21, the Blazers ran off four straight points to earn a set two victory.

The third set mirrored the previous with the teams trading points early before Hood took control of the set. The Lions had trouble stopping the Blazers who went from leading 14-10 to 20-12. Yet, Albright's never quit attitude took effect and the Lions challenged its opponent by bringing themselves within four points. Hood scored the next point to lead 24-19, but the Lions fought off two straight set points before Hood garnered the win.

In the fourth and final set, the Lions raced out to a 6-0 lead over their opponent. Each team went on a run of its own with the score remaining in Albright's favor. The Blazers came back to tie and take the lead away from Albright. Despite their persistence, the Lions were unable to regain the lead and Hood held on to win the match.

On top of Greth's 12 kills, Morgan Puller and Shaniyah Taylor added nine and six kills of their own, respectively. Claudia Guise finished the night with 41 assists, 16 digs, and three aces, while Becca Davis recorded 27 digs. At the net, Taylor tallied four blocks.

The Lions return to the court on Friday evening when the team travels to Media, Pa. to take on Penn State Brandywine. The match is scheduled to start at 6 p.m.
