ANNVILLE, Pa- Back-to-back goals in the first-half led Lebanon Valley College to a 3-1 victory over Albright College when the teams met in action Saturday afternoon.
Cam Alexander broke the scoreless tie in the 22nd minute after teammate Jake Kline sent the ball into the goal box, where Alexander broke free and shot the ball past Lions' goalie
Billy Mullen. The Flying Dutchmen (12-2, 5-1 MACC) struck again over a minute later after Bradley Mehl and Austin Freeman teamed up to put Lebanon Valley up 2-0. Freeman ripped a shot into the net after receiving the ball from Mehl in the 23rd minute.
The Flying Dutchman continued their offensive barrage into the second half, but Mullen and the Lions (2-12, 0-7 MACC) were able to hold their conference opponents at bay for 36 minutes. With the clock reading 81:38, Kyle Guissanie one-touched Ethan Abdalla's pass to extend Lebanon Valley's lead to 3-0. The Lions refused to quit even as the clock continued to expire. Adam Brosonski's shot and sent the rebound past Cam Avery to score Albright's lone goal at 87:32.
Lebanon Valley had almost three times the number of shots that the Lions did as the home team outshot Albright 23-8. The Flying Dutchmen also had a 9-1 edge in corner kicks.
Andrew Sussingham was the only Lion to record multiple shots, while
Antonios Araviakis,
Josh Linsmeier,
Miles Williams, and Leckburg all tallied one shot apiece. Mullen made seven saves in the contest.
Albright wraps up its regular season on Tuesday night when the team hosts crosstown rival, Alvernia University, at Shirk Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
